Knott End Ferry

Sitting on the benches where L. S. Lowry painted the "Jetty at Knott End", peaceful and calm with beautiful views over the estuary. Pale colours of blue, grey and muddy brown broken by the red and white of the Wyre Rose chugging slowly and tired from the hourly trips across the bay.

Turkey Dalyan

Whilst having a beer with our friends in Dalyan conversation was drawn towards travelling when retired, it was agreed that many people say that the will travel as soon as they retire but end up not doing it. After a great deal of thought and research I have come to realise that travel is now and if you don`t do it now the chances are it will be difficult to enjoy when you retire. So on my 58th birthday I have taken the decision to travel and see as much as I can. This bog is a dairy of my travels.

Miles travelled 4980.

Cruise Port Antwerp

With its medieval streets and beautiful historic centre Antwerp is a hidden gem. Our Cruise ship the "Astoria" docked just a five minute walk from the city which gave us a full day to explore and enjoy our day on foot. Looking for the unusual our first stop after enjoying the statutory coffee in the Gothic square was a chip shop. This is no ordinary chip shop though, this is chips the Michelin Star way. Chef Sergio Herman`s  Frites Atelier, luxury chippie takes the humble potato to a whole new level, Perfect chips with a selection of sauces and toppings just about the perfect chip shop.

Now it was time for liquid refreshments as man cannot live on chips alone, beer is needed and what better place is there to relax with a nice cold Belgian beer than the unusual Del Pelgrom, a medieval style bar built in a cellar complete with its own well.
